September 15, 2007, Bissau, Guinea Bissau: Guinea Bissau is infamous for its cocaine trafficking. In 2005, Colombian cartels began to arrive in the country, thus transforming it into a narco state. Up to five tons of pure cocaine are estimated to be arriving in the country every week. Guinea Bissau is the fifth poorest country in the world, making it the ideal transit base for the cocaine that will finish on the European markets. Corruption and involvement in drug trafficking are present at every level of its institutions. Guinea Bissau is only one of the countries in West Africa involved in cocaine trafficking. Selon L’Obs, la Sénégalaise a profité d’un moment d’inattention du corps médical et des forces de l’ordre proposée à la surveiller pour se dissiper dans la grande métropole de New Inde. Agée de 37 ans, elle a été appréhendée alors qu’elle été venue de Dubaï.
Après un contrôle de routine, les douaniers la soupçonnant de transporter 40 capsules remplies de cocaïne dans son estomac, elle devrait être soumise à un test pour en avoir le cœur net. C’est sur ces entrefaites qu’elle s’est échappée à l’hôpital. Une plainte a été déposée et, depuis, des équipes de la Police sont constituées pour la rechercher.
